Top 5 Anticipated Hip Hop Albums for 2010

By Mecca Donna
1.The Roots: How I Got Over
How I Got Over The most anticipated Rap Album of 2010 goes to the Philadelphia native Roots crew. The album, that carries the same name of the gospel track by legend Mahalia Jackson, is said to have tracks by Frank Zappa and Cody Chesttnutt. They debuted the title track How I Got Over on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where the Roots are the house band. It’s a heavenly slice of socially conscious Hip Hop to be released this February. It’s the perfect time to fall back in love with Hip Hop in 2010.
2. Kanye West: Good Ass Job
A Good Ass Job is Kanye West’s return to a purer version of the art form we call Hip Hop after his auto tuned 808s & Heartbreak. The title track to the album features under rated lyricist Rhymefest and Mikkey Halstead. With his pretty consistent history of controversial and curious outbursts fans and critics are anxious to see if the gifted mind of Kanye West is stable enough to continue to make historical contributions to the world of Hip Hop and American music over all.
3. Ludacris: Battle of the Sexes
Battle of The Sexes is definitely a more intriguing album to look for February 2010. The album will explore the age old question of which sex is superior. Originally the album was planned to be a battle between Ludacris and Shawnna but since she signed to a different label the project was revised–and for the better. The album is said to now include the likes of Lil’ Kim, Monica and Ne-Yo to go toe to toe on wax in an all out no holds barred Battle of The Sexes.
4. Missy Elliot: Block PartyBlock Party is Missy’s return to the music scene since 2005. Missy has represented well for the femcees and it’s high time for her return. Known for her creative turns and innovative video treatments Missy is said to have some of the same elements on Block Party as she did in her prior successes. Timbaland and The Neptunes are rumored to have produced tracks for Block Party and they always make us dance.5. Eminem: Relapse 2The great white hope he was dubbed. Eminem showed and proved that his lyricism is paramount to any personal crisis or widespread doubt. The Detroit emcee is set to drop Relapse 2 and it has the potential to be a banger. His drug induced vibe is said to be no more. Eminem went in with Just Blaze, Dr. Dre and more to produce some material that he describes as “rapid fire punch lines” because he “wanted to prove to (myself) he could do it”.
Honorable mention
Lupe Fiasco: Lasers
Lasers is an acronym for Love Always Shines Every time Remember to Smile and is Lupe Fiasco’s third album. We all thought that we were embarking up the retirement of the budding star but contractual commitments intervened. “Shining Down” is set to be the debut single.
