Rapper Eazy-E remembered today

I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since rapper Eazy-E passed away. I remember bumpin’ “Boyz-N-The-Hood” when it first came out in 1988 like it was yesterday.

Dj Rob Stacks

DJ ROB STACKS is the premiere DJ on the East Coast. Born and Raised in Roanoke, VA he got his start DJing in 1999 under the name DJ Duck which was his childhood nickname. While hosting a weekly radio show at WODU and working promotions for the world famous Boodah Brothers of WOWI. “It’s funny because back then I would sneak up to the radio station to practice before I bought my first turntables and I would let people call me a DJ because I didn’t feel like I deserved that title yet.” Starting off as the campus DJ for Old Dominion University ROB STACKS began spinning at popular night spots like Club Maxi’s, Picassos, and the Mirage in Virginia’s Hampton Roads area.

ROB STACKS credits DJs like Kid Capri and Ron G as inspiration to start DJing. “I always loved how they had the ability to keep the parties moving.” This is apparent if you have ever seen him rock. He is truly an all around entertainer- the perfect DJ or host for all types of events. He has DJed and hosted events at the most exclusive venues in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. Through hard work and determination he has made quite the name for himself.

Over the years, DJ ROB STACKS has redefined the term club DJ. His repertoire includes the ability to scratch, blend, emcee, and rock parties in all regions. “Being from VA, I was exposed to a wide variety of music. We sometimes refer to VA as the Middle East or Up South and we are blessed to be in an area where we listen to artists from New York, artist from Down South, listen to Go-Go and Baltimore music, and still get down with music from the west coast and mid-west.” In this day in age when technology allows a person to become a DJ overnight, ROB STACKS respect those that came before him and remember the days when he was dragging crates of records into parties and clubs. A little known fact is that in the short time that he has been DJing he has accumulated 10, 000 records in his collection. This is evident in the “million dollar” hard drive that he now uses to hold his catalog of music. “Any era of music, I can rock- plain and simple.”

As for the future, STACKS plans to travel around the country more DJing and Hosting events, and continue putting the spotlight on Virginia. He looks forward to working new people, artist, and promoters.

Britt Harkins “Hop Back Up”

Britt Harkins is 13 years old and lives in Virginia. She began dancing at 2 ½ and singing at age 6. Between the ages of 4 and 10, Britt time-shared her dancing and singing with gymnastics. She competed at the state-level in gymnastics through the age of 10, after which she made a decision to pursue her strongest passion, dancing and singing, exclusively. She has never looked back. Her first break came in 2006 when she was selected as a member of a local Radio Disney pop group.

This group performed throughout Hampton Roads and North Carolina, performing at concerts with big name artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Raven, The Jonas Brothers and The Cheetah Girls and Hannah Montana. With the abolition of the local Radio Disney group in 2007, Britt and two originals from the group were routinely booked on weekends, touring throughout the Tidewater and Hampton Roads areas, performing at community festivals, small businesses, malls, and other community events. Recently, Britt has decided to go for her dream and become a solo artist. She has two professional teenage back-up dancers and will continue to perform locally. Included in her song sets will be her first single “Hop Back Up.” At age 12, Britt recorded this single and recently followed it up with a music video.

Britt has a very soulful voice and enjoys singing R&B and the more soulful Pop music. Her favorite artists are Christina Aguilera and JoJo. Britt’s goal is to utilize her strong, seasoned voice and her hip-hop dance expertise to bring a clean edge to music for today’s teens. Her dream is to one day top the billboard charts and be heard on the airwaves throughout the Nation.

John Sportin

John Sportin “10GGGs”
http://www.zshare.net/audio/8702470fbcf743/

Brooklyn, New York has been the birthplace of some of hip hop’s most gifted and innovative MC’s of our era. Yet none have been as prolific as Brooklyn’s newest young hit maker: John Sportin. This talented rhyme slinger is already on the path to being placed in Brooklyn’s rap hall of fame his objective with his music is to become known as one of the greatest MC’s not for what he does but how he does it.

Born Errol Stapleton, the brooklyn-nite became fascinated with the rap game at the age of eleven. He was a slightly hostile kid whose hostility sometimes would lead to him getting into fights. With the encouragement of his fifth grade teacher, young Errol began to write down his feelings in order to release his anger, this began his journey towards rap.

He had such a love for music that he began to write songs using these words. It was during this time that he performed his first rap in front of his entire elementary school. This catapulted his desire to become a rapper as he began writing more songs about his life and how he was feeling. In 1996 Errol Stapleton became John Sportin, a name that was given to him by a well known neighborhood producer.

John Sportin began to hone his craft and set out to differentiate himself from other rappers. “I’m different from any other rapper in the game because I speak about things that I believe in,” he says. “I talk about things that I have experienced and things that I believe people should know. I try to talk about realistic things, and I speak the truth about everything–no matter if it makes me look good or bad.” John Sportin credits the likes of Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Method Man, Bob Marley, Eminem, and Dr. Dre as some of his musical inspirations.

Working with the kids of his neighborhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn, he helps them do as he once did as a child and vent through music he hopes to one day become an inspiration to them the same as his inspirations have been to him. Sportin is currently working on his first album with a couple of big name producers; he has a catalog of over 200 songs with collaborations with artist such as Kevin Lyttle, Joel Ortiz, Vein and H2O. With his smooth flow, killer delivery, and clever rhymes, John Sportin will not just be adding to the list of successful New York rappers. He will be named as one of the greatest and accomplished what he set in his heart out to do.
