I’ve just received word that Houston hip hop pioneer Eric “OG Style” Woods passed away yesterday due to complications stemming from a brain hemorrhage. Woods, pka The E, was one of the first acts signed to Rap-a-Lot (at the time OG Style was a duo including producer Big Boss, who also passed about a year ago). Their shamefully out of print 1991 debut, I Know How To Play ‘Em, is an overlooked boom bap classic that would have even the staunchest of southern rap haters nodding his head.
